Dan answered 6 months ago. I tried this before in the past and it worked. I just tried it and was not successful. I disconnected the battery for a few seconds and started the engine. The light did not come on the next time I started it. Hopefully that did it. Now I gotta fix my radio stations again.

Guru8B4V9 answered 3 months ago.The computer in your Dodge truck generates and stores error codes related to critical vehicle component systems. When your Dodge truck generates one of these codes, a Check Engine Light will illuminate on the dash. This light can indicate a variety of problems.

Ironically, only several codes pertain to the actual engine in your truck. Many of the codes can indicate a problem with the transmission, emissions control system and even the fuel system.

To erase the code and get the light to go off, you will need to reset the computer. This will involve cutting the power to the computer. Open the hood and loosen the retaining nut connected to the battery cable clamp that is attached to the negative battery terminal. Wait five seconds then slide the battery cable clamp back over the negative battery terminal. The Dodge's computer will now be reset. Tighten the retaining nut on the cable clamp to secure the clamp to the battery.

On some Dodge trucks, you will need to drive an additional miles from the time you cut power to the computer for the Dodge's computer to fully reset. Sep 26, 1 0 1 Truck Year Shifts hard just before coming to a complete stop. Down shifting from 2nd to 1st gear. The first time it happened I thought I got rear ended or the tailgate dropped.

Ram needs to address this problem. The internet is full of similar complaints. I've even gone so far as asking complete strangers if they have the same problem and they said yes. I bought this truck used and after about a week noticed that it shifts hard from 1st to second gear.

Like many other users have said I notice it most 1st thing in the morning or the first time I am driving it after work. Truck jerks hard in the shift The downshift is very abrupt and there is nothing smooth about it. I have taken it to the dealership 3x now. The 1st time they said they couldn't replicate the issue so we did a drive with the shop foreman.

He felt the problem and knew this was common. Then the dealership called me two days later and said they couldn't replicate the issue. I advised them I replicated it with the shop foreman already.

This was alarming because this situation clearly doesn't make any sense. They said they relearned the transmission and sent me back out with my truck. They couldn't replicate the issue. Relearned the transmission and sent me back out again. I showed another shop foreman the problem, he felt it, and said this is the way it's supposed to be and to "not be looking for problems with the truck, otherwise you'll find them".

FCA advised me that this is the way it's going to be and there is no fix for this. I've owned 9 vehicles in my lifetime and driven many more, and no vehicle I've ever driven has this issue or a company that didn't stand behind their customers. I don't understand what good a power train warranty is if the company doesn't fix the power train problems.A Dodge generates trouble codes and warning lights on the instrument panel.

When these lights are illuminated, your vehicle may require servicing. Most mechanics or dealerships will reset the computer for you after the servicing or repair, but not all. If you have warning or service lights still turned on your dash, then you need to reset the computer yourself. It only takes a few moments of your time and requires no special tools.

Locate the fuse panel cover under the steering column. Pull down on it from the top using your fingers. Also find the fuse pullers inside the panel. Put the key into the ignition and turn the vehicle on, but don't start the engine.

Wait five minutes and then put the ECU fuse back in place. The warning and service lights will flash several times on the instrument panel and then turn off. The computer is now reset. Put the fuse pullers back in place, close up the fuse panel cover and turn off the vehicle. What else can I do?Like most modern vehicles, the Dodge Ram features an engine management computer that handles various aspects of the vehicle, including throttle input, fuel management and transmission shifting. Many Ram owners install aftermarket chips that improve the Ram's overall performance. Installing or removing these chips may require the Ram's engine computer to be reset.

After resetting the computer, there will be a learning period when the computer adjusts to new throttle inputs and shift points. Unlatch the hood by pulling the hood release handle near the driver's side foot well. Depress the handle underneath the Ram's grille and open the hood. Disconnect the negative terminal cable from the battery with a combination wrench. Set the negative terminal cable aside and wait 20 minutes. This will drain the computer's stored electricity and clear its memory.
